Week 11 – Crashing down to earth
Monday 4.89km, 22:33, avg 4:37km
Tuesday Warmup + Intervals, 1:29, Intervals = Tempo ~3k (avg 3:38) then 4 x 1, then 5 x 30 seconds.
Wednesday 21.47km, 1:32:39, avg 4:19km pace.
Thursday 16.01km, 1:08:00, avg 4:15km pace
Total 62km, 4:32:54, avg 4:23 km pace
Monday was a disaster. The aim was a tempo ten miler, but 2k in I was having some really strange chest pains and had to head back home.
Tuesday felt better but I was still slower than usual on the intervals
Wednesday was talking tempo day. Which was interupted by an unwelcome toilet break.
Thursday felt ok.
Friday and Saturday I went down hill and was unable to run. I was unable to race on the Sunday for a long run I had entered. I was waking up in the night in a cold sweat, but no other flu symptoms. I had severe abdominal pains at time.
The last blog entry end with "Can I maintain this sort of volume and speed throughout March ?" The answer was no. I'm convinced it was food poisoning that I had (although its not certain), which started on monday and took 7 days to get rid of.
Was the sickness due to my heavy week previously ? Probably not - I think I picked up a bug. I missed a benchmark training race and I was gutted. However this didn't happen the week of London Marathon and I still have time to recover the lost ground.
